Eastern Michigan University

rachelmuscat11: Today I walked onto campus and saw this. Each backpack represents a life lost to the horrifying reality of suicide. A life lost to the lie that this life on earth holds no purpose. A life lost to the lie that each heart holds no value, no worth. A life lost to the lie that there is no longer any hope to be seen in the heart wrenching battles this sinful world brings. Oh, dear friends, please believe there is hope. Praying right now for the hearts so desperately hurting, feeling like there is no other way. In Jesus Christ we find purpose. In Jesus Christ we are valued. In Jesus Christ we find hope. I’m Him, we find the One who has overcome. #sendsilencepacking #EMU #suicideawarenessmonth
carbupandcarpediem: Today at my university there was the Send Silence Packing exhibit which shows 1,100 backpacks to represent the 1,100 students who commit suicide each year. ✴50% of college students report suicidal ideation at some point in there life, so I assure you, you are not alone and there is help available!✴ If you live in the US, here is a national suicide prevention hotline number: 1-800-273-8255. /// The exhibit reminded me of my friend who committed suicide 2 years ago. I was the last one to talk to her before she died. I always blame myself. She left us far too soon. I sobbed as I read the stories on the backpacks. Depression can be treated. Suicide is preventable. There is no reason to be silent about this. Be safe out there. You can get through this. ✌ #sendsilencepacking #suicideprevention #suicide #depression #edrecovery #ednosrecovery #ednos #recovery #edwarrior #edfighter #recoveryfamily #realcovery #realrecovery #adultswithed #togetherwecan #eatingdisorderrecovery

katydryer: Today on EMU’s campus, a group dedicated to suicide prevention laid out 1100 backpacks around campus, each backpack representing a college student’s life lost to suicide. Walking through the backpacks and reading some of the people’s backgrounds and the messages from their families and friends was a heartbreaking experience. This event was intended to raise awareness about suicide and suicide prevention. It’s important as a community to erase the stigma surrounding suicide and instead open our hearts, ears and minds to those suffering with depression every day around us. Be a confidant, be a resource, be a friend. #sendsilencepacking
savannahgroth1: Today at EMU we have a traveling display called Send Silence Packing. 1100 backpacks are laid out near pray harrold, each representing the 1100 college students that commit suicide each year. The purpose of this display is to bring awareness and take away the stigma about depression, mental disorders, and suicide. By ending the silence, more people can speak out and get help. Everyone should definitely come check it out and read some of the stories on the bags! #activeminds #sendsilencepacking
hashtagthisisjoe: The #sendsilencepacking display on campus today is incredibly heartbreaking. I’m going to bring this up in all of my classes when we talk about pathos, as well as the importance of storytelling in public rhetoric. If you’re at EMU today, go check it out.
