Let me start off by saying: Bullying is over-rated.
It’s “played out.” If you don’t know what that means, let me break it down for you. It’s something we say in New Orleans that basically refers to things that are no longer cool or never were in the first place… Like Clear Pepsi. Man, I really thought that was going to be the next big thing!
When I was growing up, bullying seemed like it was some sort of “rite of passage” for kids, including myself. I though it was a way to “earn your stripes”. I later realized that those stripes amounted to bruises and emotional scars that ran deeply beneath everything I knew to be true. I learned that during those terrible moments when I knew nothing but discomfort and pain, the voice of reason and truth telling me that bullying was wrong held no comfort. I always thought, “I know I’m not a loser. Why don’t you?”
