Stress Less Week: Living With Panic Attacks

My name is Sam, and I have an anxiety disorder and OCD.

That simple statement was almost impossible for me to utter to anyone other than my family and close friends until about a year ago. I was afraid to talk to others about my problems and issues for fear of being judged.

Then, about a year ago, I threw all that aside and decided to embark on one of the scariest journeys of my life.

I created a YouTube series about mental illness.

I committed to making 31 videos during the month of May all with a mental health or mental illness theme. During that month, I outlined my own trials and tribulations as well as just general mental health knowledge and facts.

One of the topics outlined during my YouTube series was anxiety and panic attacks. It’s something I struggled with greatly and still battle with today.

Anxiety is not something you can cure, but you can learn how to manage it successfully and live a happy life. The key is to find what works best for you. Deep breathing and exercise really help me curb my anxiety, but everyone is different. I encourage you to talk to a trained professional who can help you find the right treatment regimen that will help manage your anxiety successfully.

Anxiety can be scary, but it doesn’t have to be. Panic and anxiety ran a good portion of my life, but now I have the tools and resources to manage it properly and keep it in check. You can, too.
