Yesterday, a good friend told me she finds me brave for taking a job that has me constantly on the road.
I have felt alternately excited, anxious, at peace, and at my wits end these past two weeks of Sending Silence Packing. A new job; a new full-time coworker and travel partner; new avenues and audiences for talking about my health and my personal challenges; I knew joining Active Minds as a Roadtrip Staffer offered fresh challenges.
But me, brave? Who is she kidding? I know true bravery. I see it daily in this friend, who shares her own challenges with me. I see bravery in students I’ve met these past two weeks, opening up to their classmates in hopes their classmates will, in turn, find their own spaces in which to be vulnerable.
